Misa (Jaguar-kin)
AX.GAN.06.06 - Lineage: Misa
(Jaguar-kin)
Setting Fiction
The Misa do not announce themselves. You will know they were there after.
Among the first cultures of Andrus, the Misa are perhaps the most purely physical, a people whose philosophy, art, spirituality, and social structure all flow from a single source: the body as perfect instrument. They are not brutish. They are precise. There is a significant difference, and the Misa will demonstrate it if you confuse the two.
Misa territory spans the deep jungle overlapping with Kasia ranges, a relationship that has produced centuries of tense, complicated, and occasionally productive negotiation. Where the Kasia own stillness and the hidden waiting, the Misa own the moment of absolute commitment. Their territories interlock rather than compete, and their cultures have developed a wary mutual respect built on the understanding that they are dangerous in different ways.
Misa society is organized around prides, single-family or closely affiliated groups that claim and maintain a defined territory. Pride membership is earned, not inherited; children of Misa parents are considered members of their birth pride until early adulthood, when they undertake the Reckoning, a solo journey of unspecified duration in which they must survive, achieve something of demonstrable worth, and return with something to offer the pride they choose to join. They can return to their birth pride. They don't have to.
The Misa are known for three things across Andrus: their warriors, their swimmers, and their art. The last surprises outsiders most. Misa artistic tradition centers on body painting, mural work, and textile pattern, all of which incorporate the spotted patterns of their own coats as both aesthetic and cosmological language. The arrangement of spots is a kind of writing to the Misa, recording lineage, achievement, and prayer in patterns that can be worn.
The Misa goddess is called Tepara of the Open Water, a deity associated with crossing from one state to another, the moment between stillness and motion. She is prayed to before hunts, before difficult conversations, and before any moment of irreversible commitment.
Adventure Hook: A Misa pride's Reckoning candidate has not returned. They are three seasons overdue, too long even for the hardest journeys. The pride will not search for them (to do so would dishonor the Reckoning). But they will reward anyone who can find and return the candidate, or, if the candidate is dead, bring back what they carried.
Mechanical Profile
Health Modifier
+2
Misa are built for explosive physical performance, denser musculature, faster cardiovascular recovery, and a body that continues functioning effectively under physical stress that would shut down other creatures. Their Health pool reflects this.
Cultural Talent
Athletics 1D (free, does not come from Talent budget)
Misa culture treats physical capability as the foundation of all other achievement. Running, climbing, swimming, jumping; these are not exercises, they are the basic vocabulary of Misa life. Every Misa child learns to move their body well before they learn anything else.
Common Foci for Misa: Swimming/Diving, Running/Sprinting, Jumping/Parkour.
Inherited Perks
Jaguar Claws | Natural Weapons
Effect: The Misa possesses retractable claws that function as
natural Light weapons.
Claw Attack: Speed + Strike, Touch range.
Damage: +1D added to the attack's success count on a hit
(i.e., the attack deals 1 additional damage beyond the
rolled successes).
Claws cannot be disarmed. Drawing or retracting claws
is a Free Action.
When the Misa successfully grapples a target, their claw
attacks against that grappled target deal +1D damage
(stacks with base claw bonus, total +2D damage while
grappling).
Activation: Free Action
Scope: Touch
Genre Note: The grapple-enhanced claw damage reflects the
jaguar's hunting technique of immobilizing prey
before delivering a decisive strike.
Spotted Coat | Sensory Enhancement / Natural Defense
Effect: The Misa's natural patterning provides instinctive
camouflage in dappled-light environments, jungle
canopy, forest at midday, reed beds, rocky terrain
with sun and shadow. In these environments, add +2D
to Stealth rolls.
Additionally, the Misa's pattern-reading ability
extends beyond aesthetics: they can read intent and
emotional state through body language with unusual
accuracy. Add +1D to Notice rolls made to detect
deception or assess emotional state through observation
(not scent; this is visual pattern reading).
Activation: Passive
Scope: Self (Stealth bonus); Near range (intent reading)
Genre Note: The camouflage benefit does not apply in uniform
environments (open plains, bare stone, interiors).
GMs should adjudicate based on actual lighting
conditions and terrain.
Water-Knowing | Environmental Adaptation
Effect: Swimming, the Misa moves through water at full speed
and can hold their breath for a number of minutes equal
to their Body value (minimum 3 minutes). They suffer no
penalties to combat or action rolls while swimming in
calm water.
In rough or fast-moving water, they add +2D to Athletics
rolls to maintain control, direction, or position.
They can dive to significant depth without physical
distress (GM discretion on depth limits based on setting).
Activation: Passive
Scope: Self
Genre Note: Jaguars are exceptional swimmers and hunters in and
near water; this is a defining ecological trait
reflected mechanically. Misa should feel genuinely
at home in aquatic environments.
Statistic Cap Notes
Maximum Body may reach 6D (rather than the standard 5D maximum).
Misa physical development can exceed standard limits. A Misa who dedicates their advancement to Body may reach a level of raw physical capability unmatched by most other lineages.
Power Access
No inherent Power Access through Lineage. Individual Professions determine access as normal.
Roleplaying Notes
Misa are comfortable taking up space. They sit in positions that leave their limbs free, stand where they have room to move, and tend to make physical contact during conversation, a hand on a shoulder, a steadying grip, naturally and without self-consciousness. They assess situations physically: their eyes track movement first, exits second, threats third. They are not aggressive in social situations; they are present in a way that can read as intensity if you're not used to it. A Misa who goes still is paying very close attention to something. That is the moment to also pay attention.
Common Misa Names: Tepavar, Orrash, Sunala, Korath, Mirakis, Bayan, Teroval, Sulena, Dreth.
