Kasia (Jungle Viper-kin)

AX.GAN.06.04 - Lineage: Kasia

(Jungle Viper-kin)

Setting Fiction

To enter Kasia territory is to enter a place that is watching you back.

The Kasia are the masters of the deep jungle, not its conquerors, but its most intimate partners. They move through it without disturbing it, read its changes the way others read written language, and have built a culture of extraordinary patience and exquisitely precise violence around the simple fact that in their environment, almost everything can kill you, and the thing that kills you first is rarely the one you saw coming.

Kasia settlements are engineered to be found only by those who are meant to find them. Their architecture integrates into living trees, rock formations, and root systems, buildings that breathe and grow and change. A Kasia home built from the living jungle is considered more permanent than stone, because stone does not adapt. Outsiders stumble past Kasia villages without knowing it.

Their social structure is matrilineal, organized into coils, extended family networks named for their founding ancestor. The eldest skilled member of the coil's dominant female line holds authority, a figure called the Still One. The title honors the most valued Kasia cultural quality: the ability to remain completely motionless and fully present simultaneously. A Still One is not passive, they are watchful in the way of a coiled spring.

The Kasia have a complex philosophical tradition built around the concept of uthrak: the precise moment when waiting becomes action. Their poets, scholars, and spiritual leaders all return to this theme. When is the right moment? How do you know? The wrong answer costs everything. The Kasia have learned, through many generations, to answer correctly.

Their venom is both biological fact and cultural symbol. The Kasia do not venomize carelessly; it is considered a profound act, intimate in its way, revealing both capacity and intention. Kasia who choose not to use their venom in a fight they could have ended with it are making a statement the other party may not understand.

Adventure Hook: A Kasia Still One has requested an audience with representatives of three other cultures. She offers nothing to explain why. She has sent the invitation through seven separate intermediaries, none of whom she told more than their piece of the message. Someone has been intercepting communications from the jungle settlements for months, and she trusts nothing that travels a single path.

Mechanical Profile

Health Modifier

+1

Kasia are physically tough in ways that don't show, dense musculature beneath a deceptively slender frame, and a biology evolved to continue functioning through pain and injury that would incapacitate other creatures.

Cultural Talent

Stealth 1D (free, does not come from Talent budget)

From earliest childhood, Kasia are taught to move without being detected, in dense jungle, in open clearings, in mixed environments. Stillness and silence are not learned once; they are practiced daily as both practical skill and spiritual discipline.

Common Foci for Kasia: Wilderness Stealth, Ambush, Camouflage.

Inherited Perks

Heat Sense | Sensory Enhancement

Effect: Thermal Vision, the Kasia can detect heat signatures at
Near range in any lighting condition, including total
darkness. Living creatures, recently inhabited spaces,
and active fire sources are visible as heat outlines.
They can identify approximate size and movement of a
heat source but cannot read detail (faces, carried items).
Against targets whose body heat they can sense, the Kasia
ignores the -3D Blinded penalty for their own attacks
(they are tracking heat, not light).
Activation: Passive
Scope: Near range
Genre Note: Represents pit organ equivalents evolved in the
Kasia lineage. This is biological infrared detection,
not magic. It does not penetrate walls or see through
            cold-blooded creatures normally.

Venomous Strike | Natural Weapons

Effect: The Kasia can deliver venom through a bite attack or
through specially prepared weapons coated with
extracted venom (a ten-minute process, counts as
        preparing a kit).
Bite Attack: Speed + Strike, Touch range, 1D damage.
On a successful hit, the target must make a Body Save
(Threshold 3) or suffer a Moderate Body Condition
(−2D to Body-based pools) for the next 24 hours,
or until treated with Medicine (Threshold 3).
Prepared Weapon Coating: One weapon attack delivers
the venom effect on hit (same Save and Condition).
The coating lasts for one hit or one hour, whichever
        comes first.
Activation: Free Action (to declare bite); Minor Action (to coat)
Scope: Touch
Recovery: The Kasia can produce enough venom to coat a weapon
once per Long Rest. Bite attacks have no usage limit.
Genre Note: The venom effect is biological poison, not magic.
Creatures with Toxic Immunity are unaffected.
The Moderate Body Condition affects Strength,
Athletics, Strike, and all other Body-based pools.

Liquid Movement | Movement

Effect: The Kasia moves through difficult terrain, dense
undergrowth, shallow water, rubble, crowds, at full
speed without penalty. They can also move through spaces
that would require a creature of their size to squeeze
        without any speed reduction.
When the Kasia takes the Hide action in natural
environments (jungle, forest, wetland, tall grass),
they add +2D to the Stealth roll.
Activation: Passive
Scope: Self
Genre Note: Reflects the snake's extraordinary capacity to
navigate terrain through flexible body movement.
The Hide bonus applies only in natural environments,
not in urban or constructed spaces.

Statistic Cap Notes

No statistic cap increases. Kasia standard caps apply (Attributes max 5D; Talents max 5D).

Power Access

No inherent Power Access through Lineage. Individual Professions determine access as normal.

Roleplaying Notes

Kasia are not cold, they are precise. They feel deeply but express that feeling only when the moment is correct. In conversation they are often still, watching, asking questions more than volunteering information. They have a tendency to position themselves between other people and exits, not paranoia, but instinct. They find loud, boisterous social environments draining and prefer smaller gatherings where everyone present has a clear role. A Kasia who laughs freely is one who trusts you profoundly. A Kasia who smiles without any of that reaching their eyes may be deciding something about you.
