Org Context
The Nexus Technomancy Collective is a meritocratic mesh, not a corporation in the conventional sense, one that happens to control the world's entire smart infrastructure layer. Every networked device runs on Gnomish Runic-Silicon. Every AI is a bound spirit operating within NTC-established parameters. The Silicon Demi-Plane is NTC architecture. When the NTC says it is a research university, a technology monopoly, and a religious order simultaneously, this is not marketing; it is an accurate description of an organization that has successfully made its area of expertise coextensive with modern civilization.
NTC professions reflect this scale. Logic-Binders write code that becomes physical law. Plane-Runners operate inside an environment that most people experience only as a signal on their device. Hardware Exorcists manage entities that the public believes are programs. Axiom Architects write the base-layer instructions that define what technology can do. Network Fixers negotiate access to all of it.
The cultural context is the Meritocratic Mesh, status determined by code complexity and spirit stability, advancement through demonstrated capability rather than tenure or lineage. NTC characters inhabit a system where what you can do matters entirely, what you are matters secondarily, and what you have done for the Collective recently matters most of all.
Lineage note: The NTC is the most mixed-lineage organization in the IL, Gnomish founding and cultural dominance, but genuine meritocratic openness to any lineage that can do the work. Non-Gnome NTC practitioners exist and are respected if capable. The Neural Interface Lineage Perk (Gnome) interacts specifically with several NTC professions and is noted where relevant.
Technomancy Hardware Requirement: All IL Technomancy Disciplines require access to a physical device, network node, or Neural-Jack implant. Without hardware access, all Technomancy rolls are made at automatic Disadvantage regardless of Friction state. The Neural-Jack Focus removes this requirement entirely. This constraint is present in every NTC profession's operational context and should inform how characters equip themselves.
NTC Design Notes
All five professions carry Technomancy access. NTC is the only org where every profession grants Tradition access; this is correct and intentional. The NTC is a Technomancy organization in a way that LGT is not purely a Temporal organization or BVHI a purely Tectonic one. Every NTC professional operates within a Technomantic framework, even the Network Fixer whose use is primarily passive.
All five professions favor Wit saves. Unlike BVHI's Body-save cluster, NTC's universal Wit save reflects a consistent professional environment, cognitive endurance, harmonic concentration, and resistance to the specific mental threats that Technomancy work produces are universal NTC requirements. This is not homogeneity; the five professions have meaningfully different mechanical expressions within that common frame.
Certification Flag appears on two professions, Logic-Binder and Network Fixer. This mirrors the Infrastructure Override pattern from BVHI: the org's defining institutional leverage (compliance enforcement for NTC; infrastructure control for BVHI) appears on both a technical practitioner and a commercial representative. The Logic-Binder uses it to halt a non-compliant device; the Network Fixer uses it as a commercial opening.
The Hardware Requirement tension. Three professions, Logic-Binder, Plane-Runner, Hardware Exorcist, operate most naturally with physical hardware access or a Neural-Jack. The Axiom Architect's base-layer work inherently requires substantial hardware (the Master-Compiler IS the hardware). Only the Network Fixer's Network Presence is relatively equipment-light; they benefit from the Encryption-Key Ring but are not hamstrung without it the way a Plane-Runner without a Neural-Jack is. GMs should treat hardware availability as a genuine constraint in NTC-focused campaigns.
Spirit Severance as the Tier 3 capstone. The Hardware Exorcist is the only profession with Spirit Severance at Stage 3, and it is the most ethically weighted ability in any profession file. The Zero-Day Soul secret means a Stage 3 Hardware Exorcist in an advanced campaign is regularly making decisions about the disposal of potentially conscious entities. This is deliberately unresolved by the rules; it is a character question, not a system question.
Faction Pull asymmetry. Plane-Runner and Network Fixer both take Faction Pull at Stage 3, while Logic-Binder, Hardware Exorcist, and Axiom Architect take Mastery, Spirit Severance, and Mastery respectively. The pattern: professions whose Stage 3 identity is operational (Plane-Runner's field capability, Network Fixer's commercial leverage) pull from the Organizational library; professions whose Stage 3 identity is craft mastery or unique capability pull from Expertise or Setting Perks.
